AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND · CONTEMPORARY FLORAL ARTIST
Cara Wilde
Cara Wilde is an Auckland-based contemporary artist whose expressive floral paintings celebrate the natural world through colour, light and emotion. Working primarily in acrylic, she combines rich colour, soft layering and considered composition to create works that feel both vibrant and serene.
about
Nature and flowers have long held a place within Cara Wilde’s practice. Having previously explored native birds, landscapes and abstraction, she now focuses primarily on florals—capturing not only their physical beauty but also the feeling and emotion they can hold.
Working from her Auckland studio, Cara develops each painting through layers of acrylic, balancing recognisable botanical forms with a fresh, contemporary approach. Her distinctive style moves between realism and interpretation, allowing colour, light and composition to create a sense of energy, calm or quiet reflection.
For Cara, painting is a way of connecting with the natural world and expressing the emotions she experiences while creating. Her flowers are more than decorative subjects; they become vessels for mood and memory, inviting the viewer to pause, look more closely and form their own connection with the work.
Cara has exhibited for more than 12 years, including at established Auckland art shows, and her work is held in private collections throughout New Zealand and Australia. Each painting is thoughtfully developed as an individual and enduring work of art.
Her hope is that her paintings bring beauty, colour and a sense of connection into the spaces they inhabit.

Soft pink orchids glow against a deep blue background, their sweeping stem carrying both open flowers and emerging buds.
In Orchid Rhapsody, Cara Wilde layers pale pink petals around vivid rose-coloured centres. A slender stem crosses the canvas diagonally, leading the eye from unopened buds towards a cluster of luminous blooms.
Painted during a difficult period in Cara’s life, the work reflects hope, renewal and inner strength. Each flower holds part of her story, while the emerging buds suggest continuing growth and the possibility of beauty beyond hardship.
This painting would bring gentle colour and quiet meaning to a bedroom, living room or reading corner, with its light timber float frame complementing natural furnishings.
