NEW PLYMOUTH, NEW ZEALAND · FIGURATIVE & PORTRAIT ARTIST

Reyna Henderson

Reyna Henderson is a New Plymouth artist whose oil paintings explore the quiet emotional terrain of everyday life. Through portraiture and figurative work, she captures moments of pause, fatigue and reflection—revealing the vulnerability and silent strength that often remain unseen.

about

Reyna Henderson has always had a passion for drawing and painting, with a particular interest in the human form.

After studying and working full-time in the retail interior design industry, she returned her focus to painting while balancing family life and raising her children.

Reyna’s work explores the quieter experiences of everyday life—the moments when we retreat into our thoughts, become distant from the world around us or simply find the strength to continue.

The tension between presence and withdrawal, visibility and vulnerability sits at the centre of her practice. Her figures may appear still or introspective, yet their quietness carries emotional weight.

Working primarily in oils on canvas, Reyna seeks to move beyond physical likeness. Her paintings create space for reflection, inviting viewers to recognise familiar emotions within another person’s expression, posture or moment of stillness.

There is a tenderness in the way she approaches her subjects. Rather than explaining everything, Reyna allows subtle gestures and carefully observed details to suggest the story held beneath the surface.

Her work has received multiple awards and is held in private collections throughout New Zealand.

Reyna’s paintings remind us that strength is not always loud or visible. Sometimes it is found in the quiet act of carrying on.

Because even our most private moments can hold something universally understood.
