A compact abstract work that gathers the colour and movement of a changing shoreline.
Bands of vivid blue, muted green, pale grey and soft pink move across Washed Up. Their broken edges and layered marks suggest water meeting land, with forms that seem to settle and shift as the eye travels through the painting.
Katherine Simpson allows earlier marks to remain part of the surface. Areas of colour are built up, crossed and partly revealed, giving this small work a surprising sense of depth. The title offers a coastal association, while leaving the viewer free to find their own shapes and story within it.
At 45 × 29 cm, Washed Up would sit beautifully on a smaller wall, in a hallway or study, or alongside other works in a collection.
Coastal. Layered. Restless.
Mixed media on board 45 × 29 cm 2026 Framed in a slimline natural timber tray frame.
