Laurie Roodt
A watchful figure stands apart as a quiet gathering unfolds behind him.
In The Sentinel, a boy faces the viewer, a long firearm resting against his shoulder. Behind him, three figures gather around a small tea table. Muted olive, terracotta and violet tones frame the scene, while strong shadows lend the familiar domestic setting an uneasy stillness.
Part of Roodt’s Kinder Tribe series, the painting explores childhood and shifting social expectations across generations. The contrast between the boy’s watchful stance and the gathering behind him invites a closer look.
A thought-provoking work for a living room, study or hallway, where its figures and quiet tension can hold attention.
