Meaning “jewel” in Persian, Soraya is the final work in a small series inspired by jewellery and the transformative power of adornment. The figure turns away from the viewer, allowing the intricately embellished garment to become the focus of the painting.
Against a deep, atmospheric background, warm skin and softly flowing hair are contrasted with an extraordinary arrangement of jewel-like forms. Every facet, bead and decorative detail has been carefully rendered, creating the impression of light moving across precious stones and polished metal.
Deb Adie’s love of ornate embellishment sits at the heart of this work. Capturing every tiny detail and sparkle became a rewarding exercise in patience and precision, reflecting both her technical skill and her background as a makeup artist.
At 750 × 600 mm, Soraya would create an elegant focal point in a bedroom, dressing room, entranceway or sophisticated living space. It would also sit beautifully above a console or sideboard, or bring drama and refinement to a boutique, beauty studio, hotel or hospitality setting.
