Seahorse Baby Shower

Kirsty Black

Curling ribbons of red, turquoise and green give this glossy wall sculpture a playful sense of motion.

In Seahorse Baby Shower, Kirsty Black carries bright colour around an open, looping plywood form. Blue, orange and white stripes follow its sweeping curves, while small orange dots punctuate the surface. Cut-out spaces allow the wall behind to become part of the composition.

Kirsty’s accompanying story sets the mood: “As the bubbles flowed it didn’t take long for the seahorse shenanigans to begin.” The title invites an underwater adventure, leaving viewers to find their own creatures and characters within the twisting shapes.

Acrylic and resin bring colour and a reflective finish to this sculptural work. Its expressive silhouette would create a lively focal point in an entranceway, living room or creative workspace.
