Laurie Roodt

A child absorbed in green paint brings a playful moment to a world of purple shadows.

In Salon, Laurie Roodt depicts a seated child carefully brushing green paint onto their toes, with a paint pot close by and more green marks scattered across the tree trunk beside them. Soft lilac, deep plum and olive tones surround the figure, making the bright paint stand out.

Part of Roodt’s Kinder Tribe series, the painting explores childhood and changing social expectations across generations. The child’s concentration gives this mischievous scene a quiet tenderness, recalling the freedom of making your own entertainment.

This painting would bring colour and character to a living room, bedroom or hallway, with its purple and green palette pairing beautifully with warm neutrals and natural timber.
