Love in the Pohutukawa Tree

Tracey Purkis

Bright red pōhutukawa flowers and a pair of courting tūī celebrate love and the promise of summer.

In Love in the Pohutukawa Tree, Tracey Purkis captures two courting tūī among vibrant red blossoms set against blue. Inspired by her own Kāpiti garden, the painting celebrates a familiar moment in New Zealand’s natural world.

Tracey’s love of birds and colour sits at the heart of her practice. Here, the pōhutukawa flowers become both a promise of summer and a symbol of love, bringing a personal garden encounter onto canvas.

This square painting would bring colour and warmth to a living room, bedroom or entranceway, with its garden subject offering a connection to the outdoors.
