Warm orange forms ripple across natural linen, tracing a path inspired by a walk along Wellington’s South Coast.
In Verse, Tara Luty draws on the rhythm of her footsteps in the sand. The painted shapes move across the surface in a series of shallow, undulating marks, growing smaller towards the top of the canvas and inviting the eye to follow their path.
The painting emerged from a long coastal walk, during which Tara turned and retraced her steps. Its title connects the rhythms of walking and poetry: a line can be followed to its end before turning and beginning another. The orange pigment was made from a brick found on Wellington’s South Coast, bringing material from the landscape into the work itself.
With its warm colour and flowing forms, Verse would bring a sense of movement to a living room, dining space or entranceway, sitting beautifully alongside natural timber and neutral tones.
