Grey Waves by New Zealand artist Jamie Adamson is a circular wall sculpture created from heat-treated acrylic. Through the controlled application of heat, the rigid material has been shaped into flowing folds, ripples and deep sculptural contours.
The soft grey surface changes continuously with its surroundings. Light gathers along the raised edges and falls into the deeper folds, creating shifting highlights and shadows that give the work movement throughout the day.
Jamie’s boat-building background brings an understanding of form, precision and material transformation to the piece. While acrylic is usually associated with flat, rigid surfaces, here it becomes unexpectedly soft and organic—appearing almost like draped fabric, moving water or a landscape shaped by wind.
At 90 centimetres in diameter, Grey Waves would create an elegant focal point in an entrance, living room, bedroom, stairwell or above a console. Its sculptural presence would also suit an office, boardroom, hotel, spa, restaurant or contemporary commercial interior.
