Dotterel

$615.00

Danny Forrest

A quiet coastal portrait capturing the resilience and character of one of Aotearoa’s treasured shorebirds.

A New Zealand dotterel stands among scattered seaweed, its body tucked low as it braces against the coastal wind. The bird’s soft brown, rust and cream colouring is carefully recreated against the pale natural grain of the plywood panel.

Hand-sculpted in polymer clay, the work combines tiny feather-like marks with individually shaped wing details, creating depth and texture across the bird’s compact form. The minimal composition reflects the openness of a New Zealand beach while keeping the dotterel firmly at its centre.

With its natural palette and understated coastal character, Dotterel can be displayed on a shelf or incorporated into a wall arrangement. The work was created using a reference photograph by Phil Disberry.

Coastal. Detailed. Endearing.

Hand-sculpted polymer clay on plywood 20 × 20 × 4.3 cm Square plywood panel

UNFRAMED room-setting image shows a display possibility only.
