Condescending II

$2,800.00

Dean Proudfoot

The humble traffic cone. Bright orange. Universally cursed. Almost never questioned.

Cone-illogical began in traffic — hours spent stuck behind stop-go men, watching orange plastic monuments quietly boss everyone around. In the enforced stillness, the artist began to see the cones differently. Less as practical objects, and more as characters: absurd, authoritative and oddly charismatic.

This painting takes that idea further — a whimsical arrangement of traffic cones, defying gravity in a mystical dance. There’s something almost condescending about the cone and its quiet authority. Taking condescending and making it conedescending turns that idea on its head.

Bold, playful and full of personality, the work could sit just as easily in a home as in a commercial, hospitality or office setting — bringing colour, humour and a great conversation starter to the space.
