Sunny yellow, sweeping blue lines and orange accents create a playful burst of movement.
In Cannonball Ken, Kirsty Black curves pale blue and deep navy marks around a bright yellow ground. An orange and white arc sweeps across the upper section, while scattered dots punctuate the flowing lines. Three shaped plywood tiles give the composition a rounded outline, interrupted by a squared lower corner.
Kirsty’s imagined story adds a mischievous twist: Ken launches himself over a waterfall, narrowly missing a hippo pool party below. The abstract forms leave plenty of room to discover your own characters and adventures. This work was a finalist in the Walker & Hall Waiheke Art Award 2024.
Mounted on a single lightweight backing board, the bevelled tiles bring subtle depth to the painted surface. This cheerful wall sculpture would add colour and character to a living room, entranceway or creative workspace.
