Black Beauty by New Zealand artist Jamie Adamson is a circular timber wall sculpture formed from individually shaped sections of American oak. Arranged in an intricate overlapping pattern, the raised elements create depth, rhythm and a strong sense of movement across the surface.
Finished in high-gloss black, the work changes as light travels across it. Reflections highlight the sculpted edges and reveal the oak grain beneath the dark finish, creating subtle variations of black, charcoal, silver and warm reflected colour.
Jamie’s boat-building background is evident in the precision of each component and the way the separate forms join to create a unified whole. The result sits between sculpture, design and architecture—bold from a distance and richly detailed when viewed closely.
