Inspired by Ashley Gorge in North Canterbury, Ashley Gorge – Early Summer draws on Adrienne Rewi’s regular visits to the area for sketching and photography. Its green farming landscapes, rolling hills and expansive skies are reimagined through sweeping, energetic marks and richly layered colour.
Deep greens rise and fold across the surface, grounded by earthy browns and softened with passages of cream, grey and pale blue. The brushwork creates a sense of movement through the land, capturing its changing light, natural rhythms and the particular vibrancy of early summer.
Bold yet grounded, this work would bring depth and energy to a living room, entranceway, stairwell, office or contemporary commercial space. Its square format and earthy palette work especially well against warm white, natural timber or deep green walls.
