Winter across the Canterbury landscape, translated through colour and instinct. 2026
The Southern Alps form a powerful presence across Canterbury, becoming especially striking in winter when their peaks are cloaked in snow. In Snowcaps, Adrienne Rewi draws on this familiar view while moving beyond a literal representation of the landscape.
Cool blue and soft grey mountains rise beneath a sweeping sky, while the land below is built through energetic layers of cobalt, ochre, olive and rust. Lines, dots and shifting areas of texture suggest fields, trees, roads and human traces, capturing the contrast between the distant stillness of the Alps and the colour and activity of the land beneath them.
Both fresh and atmospheric, Snowcaps brings the feeling of a Canterbury winter indoors without losing Adrienne’s expressive, intuitive approach.
This work would sit beautifully in a bedroom, hallway, study, entranceway or contemporary living space, framed with generous matting to allow the composition room to breathe.
Mixed media on Fabriano paper 420 × 297 mm
