A vivid orange handle and cool metallic details turn a familiar garden tool into a striking composition.
In Secateurs, Nina Julyan captures the meeting of handle, spring and metal fittings in close detail. The orange cuts diagonally across a dark background, while small scratches and worn surfaces reveal the character of an object shaped by use.
Part of Nina’s Garden Series, this photograph shifts a familiar garden tool into unfamiliar territory through close focus and isolation. Removed from their everyday setting, the secateurs invite renewed attention to details usually overlooked. Echoing the presentation practices of museums and archives, the series reframes ordinary objects as significant and worthy of contemplation.
Presented in a black frame, this work would bring a bold accent to a kitchen, study or garden-facing room, displayed alone or alongside other photographs from the series.
