In Outside/In, Sophie Pendergast arranges reclaimed wooden strips within a warm timber surround. Horizontal bands are interrupted by raised vertical and crosswise elements, creating depth and rhythm. Worn paint, chipped edges and exposed grain remain visible throughout.

Part of her Structura series, the work draws inspiration from architectural floor plans and the way simple lines and angles become three-dimensional forms. Constructed from reclaimed kauri sarking and mataī flooring, it reflects Sophie’s careful approach to preserving the character of salvaged materials while giving them a new composition.

This compact wall sculpture would bring colour and texture to an entranceway, bedroom or wall above a small console, pairing naturally with plants, timber furniture and neutral interiors.
