That suspended moment when the landscape waits for the weather to break. 2026
In Flyover – Before the Rain, a vast blue-grey sky presses gently over a low, sun-warmed landscape. Small birds cross the open space beneath gathering clouds, introducing a fleeting sense of movement within an otherwise quiet and expectant scene.
Big skies frequently inspire Adrienne Rewi, although her paintings are never literal records of a single location. Here, translucent washes, softened edges and areas of untouched paper create an emotional response to the environment—an essence of place shaped by atmosphere, memory and instinct.
There is both calm and tension in the work: the warmth of the ochre land below, the cool weight of rain above, and a sense that everything may change in the next moment.
This intimate watercolour would sit beautifully in a kitchen, bedroom, hallway, reading space or coastal home, either on its own or grouped with other works on paper.
Watercolour painting 420 × 297 mm
UNFRAMED room image shows a framing possibility only.
