A landscape shaped by heat, distance and a changing climate. 2026
Eight years after travelling through the Australian Outback, its sheer scale and intensity continue to hold a powerful place in Adrienne Rewi’s visual memory. In Drought, expansive ochre and sand-toned land stretches beneath a pale blue sky, interrupted by coral passages, dry white lines and sparse organic forms.
The restrained landscape carries both beauty and unease. Its open space suggests the heat and vastness of Central Australia, while also reflecting a condition becoming increasingly familiar in parts of Aotearoa, including Canterbury. What began as a memory of one environment now speaks to another.
Layered acrylic, scratched marks and shifting areas of texture give the work a dry, weathered quality. Quiet from a distance yet richly detailed up close, Drought invites reflection on place, memory and the ways landscapes are changing around us.
This work would suit a study, hallway, bedroom, office or intimate sitting area, especially framed with generous space around it.
Acrylic on Fabriano watercolour paper 420 × 297 mm
