Adrienne Rewi begins without preparatory sketches or a fixed destination, allowing each material and mark to lead naturally into the next. Coast emerged through this intuitive studio process—not as a depiction of one particular place, but as a distillation of coastlines remembered, observed and felt over time.
Rock-like forms gather along a shifting horizon, while muted blue, stone, sand and weathered red create an atmosphere shaped by sea and exposure. Drawn lines, textured surfaces and partially obscured marks suggest tidal traces, eroded cliffs and fragments discovered along the shore.
There is a quiet ambiguity to the work. Familiar coastal elements appear, then dissolve back into abstraction, leaving space for the viewer’s own memories and associations to surface.
Its subtle palette and layered detail would suit a bedroom, hallway, study, coastal home or quiet sitting space, either displayed alone or grouped with other works on paper.
