Canterbury Cropping II shares its inspiration with Adrienne Rewi’s later work of the same name: the cultivated fields of the Canterbury Plains and the spectacular patterns they create across the landscape in summer.
Soft washes of lavender, pale green, blue and cream move through the sky and distant hills, while textured fields unfold below. Small passages of ochre and rust suggest crops catching the sunlight as they sway in the wind, creating points of warmth within the quiet, atmospheric palette.
Rather than describing individual fields precisely, Adrienne captures the sensory experience of looking across them—the shifting colour, broad horizons and sense of movement travelling through the land.
