A remembered landscape of immense skies and fields alive with yellow. 2025
Adrienne Rewi’s three years in Victoria had a lasting influence on her creative life. It was there, in 2017, that she returned to painting after almost 30 years working as a journalist and writer.
In spring and summer, Victoria’s canola fields become vast swathes of brilliant yellow. Here, luminous washes of yellow and ochre stretch beneath a deep blue sky, while loose, darker marks suggest field boundaries and distant vegetation.
Yellow is a colour Adrienne describes as her creative nemesis, and very few of her yellow paintings satisfy her. This work is a rare exception. Painted after her return to Christchurch, it shows how strongly the Australian landscape remains within her visual memory.
This light-filled work would bring warmth and openness to a study, hallway, bedroom, kitchen or contemporary living space.
