Adrienne Rewi regularly shares her studio with her young granddaughter, Olive. They have worked alongside one another since Olive was two, sometimes creating paintings together, with wonderfully unpredictable results.
On this occasion, Olive changed her mind at the last moment, leaving Adrienne to continue experimenting alone. The title preserves that unfinished intention and the quiet presence of a collaboration that almost was.
Soft blue watercolour opens into washes of ochre, pink, purple and charcoal, while loose pencil marks move freely across the surface. The work retains a sense of play, spontaneity and permission to follow wherever the materials lead.
