A Point in Time

$300.00

Adrienne Rewi

A painting created at the threshold between one life and another. 2020

A Point in Time was painted soon after Adrienne Rewi returned to Christchurch following three years in Victoria, Australia. Her belongings had only just arrived, the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning, and she was weighing whether to return to journalism and fiction writing or re-establish herself as a full-time artist after a 30-year break.

Unlike many of Adrienne’s landscape-based works, this painting responds more directly to an internal state. Dense passages of plum, rust, ochre, black and white overlap and press against one another, carrying the uncertainty and emotional weight of a defining moment.

Ultimately, circumstances helped make the decision. Adrienne stepped away from professional life and allowed painting to become central again. The work now marks that transition—a particular point when uncertainty gave way to a new creative direction.

This intimate and thoughtful work would bring warmth and depth to a study, reading corner, bedroom, hallway or quiet living space, where its layered surface can be appreciated at close range.
