TE WHANGANUI-Ā-TARA, NEW ZEALAND · TEXTILE & VISUAL ARTIST

Shane-Maree Morris

Shane-Maree Morris is a Wellington-based textile and visual artist whose passion for design, architecture and fabric comes together in distinctive works created for interior spaces. Through her practice, Textile.Exile, Shane transforms original abstract artworks into richly coloured textiles that balance proportion, texture and form.

about

For more than two decades, Shane-Maree Morris has explored the possibilities of textiles—creating wall hangings, cushions, table runners and soft furnishings that bring art into the spaces of everyday life.

Her practice sits at the meeting point of visual art and interior design. With a strong eye for proportion, balance, colour and texture, Shane creates pieces that retain the individuality of an original artwork while responding to the environments they inhabit.

Textile.Exile explores the processes and techniques involved in translating Shane’s original abstract artworks onto fabric. Marks, shapes and relationships between colours are transformed through textile printing before being made into distinctive furnishings and wall-based works.

Rather than reproducing patterns widely available commercially, every design begins with Shane’s own artwork. This gives each collection a visual language grounded in the hand of the artist—expressive, considered and intentionally different.

Through her wider practice, Textures of Aotearoa, Shane draws inspiration from the colours, materials and character of New Zealand. These tactile works celebrate the diversity of Aotearoa and create a strong connection to place.

Shane’s work invites art beyond the frame, allowing colour, texture and story to become part of how a room is experienced.

Because the objects we live alongside can be practical, beautiful and still hold the presence of an original work of art.
