CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND · CONTEMPORARY PAINTER

Alice Power

Alice Power is a Christchurch-based contemporary painter whose work explores emotion, memory, beauty and the quiet mysteries of everyday life. Working primarily in acrylic, she creates luminous, layered paintings that balance careful observation with intuitive expression.

about

Alice Power is drawn to moments that can be difficult to put into words—the feeling held within a face, the atmosphere of a landscape, the memory attached to an object or the fleeting sense that something exists just beneath the surface.

Acrylic paint is central to her practice. Its versatility allows Alice to build luminous colour, translucent layers and expressive marks while moving between fine detail and more instinctive, painterly passages.

Her paintings balance the considered with the intuitive. Beauty sits alongside vulnerability, while strength and tenderness are allowed to exist within the same work.

Rather than explaining everything, Alice leaves room for the viewer’s own emotions, memories and associations. Each painting becomes an invitation to pause, look more closely and discover what might be quietly emerging from beneath its surface.

Alice holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts. Her artistic training continues to inform her attention to composition, technique and the emotional possibilities of paint.

With more than 300 paintings sold, Alice’s work is held in private collections internationally. She continues to develop her practice while exploring new directions within contemporary painting.

Her work reminds us that even the most familiar faces, places and objects can hold something unexpected when we take the time to look again.

Because sometimes the quietest moments carry the deepest feeling.
